Changes to payment and entrance at the Kookos student restaurant
The Sörnäinen campus restaurant Food & Co has decided to introduce stricter rules related to lunch payments. The reason for the changes is the increase in customer misconduct since last autumn. Read below what changes were introduced at the beginning of 2026.
Entrance and paying at the self-service checkouts via the Tori courtyard
From the beginning of 2026, entering the Kookos student restaurant will only be possible through the doors at the Tori courtyard. The front door leading to Haapaniemenkatu will be kept closed.
Both of the restaurant’s self-service checkouts will be located by the doors next to Tori, and in the future, payment transactions will be monitored by the restaurant’s staff. Lunches will no longer be sold from the container café at Tori, and instead, all sales will take place at the self-service checkouts by the restaurant’s door.
Pay first and keep the receipt visible
Customers must always pay their lunch before getting the food, and they must place their receipt visibly on the tray. The restaurant may request lunch-goers to present their receipt if it is not on display.
These changes are introduced so that the Food & Co company that runs the restaurant can ensure that all customers have paid for their lunch. According to the restaurant, payment misconduct increased significantly last autumn.
Porcelain coffee cups are no longer in use
Last autumn, we shared the news that a large number of the restaurant’s coffee cups were taken to the premises of Kookos and Mylly, and they were not returned to the restaurant. Since the situation has not changed since last autumn, the restaurant has no other choice but to stop making porcelain coffee cups available. In the future, a cup of coffee purchased as take away will only be available in a disposable cup.
