Uniarts Helsinki admitted 364 new students in spring 2025

The number of new bachelor’s and master’s students admitted to the university was 364, of whom 43 will study at the Academy of Fine Arts, 243 at the Sibelius Academy and 78 at the Theatre Academy.

One of the most sought-after universities in Finland

The bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes received a total of 4,440 applications. The total number of applicants was 3,649. The number of applications was 741 at the Academy of Fine Arts, 1,602 at the Sibelius Academy and 2,097 at the Theatre Academy.

Uniarts Helsinki is one of the most sought-after universities in Finland when set in proportion to applicant numbers, as about 10% of the applicants were admitted. The most popular application options were the Degree Programme in Acting, Degree Programme in Fine Arts and Degree Programme in Music Technology.

The number of applications to Uniarts Helsinki from international applicants decreased from the previous year, following a national trend. Starting from the 2025 admissions, the Universities Act requires higher education institutions to charge application fees from applicants from outside the EU, which had an impact on the number of international applicants. International applicants represented about 22% of all applicants to Uniarts Helsinki.

The number of applicants and admitted students varies each year, because some programmes do not admit new students on a yearly basis. The application period for master’s studies in the Degree Programme in Fine Arts will take place in August 2025.

Wide-scale interest for a new programme

The Sibelius Academy’s new Master’s Programme in Music Business sparked a great deal of interest in its first application round in spring 2025. The programme attracted 107 applications, and 16 applicants were selected to begin their studies this autumn.

The music business programme offers a forward-looking and interdisciplinary approach to the music industry, merging artistic vision with entrepreneurial strategy and creative leadership.

“We were genuinely delighted by the strong interest this new programme received right from the start. It’s a clear sign that the music business landscape is changing, and that there is an increasing need for educational models that speak both the language of art and the logic of the market”, says Dr. Violeta Simjanovska, Head of the Department at the Sibelius Academy.
