Pedagogy of composition and musicianship subjects 2025–26
Students of different study programmes can participate in pedagogy courses in composition and musicianship subjects (aural skills, music theory, structural awareness). The courses provide students with the opportunity to broaden their pedagogical competence and chances of employment. Music schools are increasingly asking their teachers to integrate musicianship elements, improvisation and composition into instrumental, vocal and ensemble studies.
Courses in English 2025-26
- S-STT12B_24-3001 Pedagogy of structural awareness of music 1b, spring EN 5 cr, group lessons Tuesdays 13.15-14.45
Both courses include a concise practice teaching, additionally to the group lessons. The practice teaching timetables will be specified in May-June for each student. In practice teaching, students can use English, Swedish or Finnish. For students whose major is not music theory, we recommend that they have completed pedagogy studies in their own major subject.

The course is carried out as a cooperation project between orchestral musicians, school students, Creative interactive skills (LuoMus) course participants and music education students. Orientation meetings in autumn term 2025 (beginning on week 44) will prepare the workshop period in January–March 2026.
Enrollment in Peppi database. The studies need to be included in your Personal study plan (PSP=HOPS). The courses can also be continued after graduation through the Open university.
