Language and communication studies
The registration period for language and communication studies in the next academic year has started. The deadline for registration for the autumn semester is 27 August and for the spring semester 1 December.
You can start completing language and communication studies already in August. The intensive courses offered in August include Swedish as a second national language, English for Arts Studies and Practice 2, Interaction Skills (in English) and Texts related to working life (in Finnish). All summer courses can be found in the study guide.
Uniarts Helsinki students can also take online language courses from the KiVANET network. Applications for autumn courses are open from 13 August to 7 September, and the course offerings will be published closer to the registration deadline on the KiVANET website. The KiVANET courses are suitable for optional studies in a degree. Courses in German, French, Italian, Spanish and Russian at level B1 or above may also be suitable as foreign language studies for the bachelor’s degree.

SAMA (Sound Art & Sonic Arts)
Are you interested in studying sound art? SAMA (Sound Art & Sonic Arts) is Uniarts Helsinki’s joint study module, which explores sound as a versatile form of contemporary art. SAMA courses are aimed at master’s students, but they are also suitable for bachelor’s students and exchange students. You can complete individual courses of SAMA studies or the whole module. You can apply for the courses offered for the whole academic year 2024-2025 from April 4 2025 at 15:00 PM. Application ends one week before the start of the course. The courses in the module are taught in English.
As a highlight of our new course selection, we would like to mention two of our summer 2025 workshops. In the Approaches to Expanded Scoring (3 cr) course in June, you will have the opportunity to take a multidisciplinary approach to scoring. In addition, in August, you will have the opportunity to explore the intersection of ritual and sound through various theories of ritual and embodied sound practices in the Ritual and Sound (3 cr) workshop.
