Studies according to the 2024–2030 curriculum
Students who start their studies in autumn 2024 complete their studies according to the 2024–2030 curricula. If you have started your studies before 1 August 2024, you will transition to the degree structure following the new curriculum by 1 February 2026 at the latest. The titles and scopes of the degrees will not change.
Curriculum
A curriculum is an overall description of education, confirmed by the university, in which the degree structure and intended learning outcomes, contents and competence evaluation methods of study modules and units are defined.
Five cross-cutting themes from Uniarts Helsinki’s strategy are emphasised in the curriculum: digitalisation, ecological sustainability, wellbeing, international activities and research orientation. You can check which cross-cutting themes are integrated into the teaching content in the course details for each study unit.
You can find the curricula in Uniarts Helsinki’s Study Guide.

Transition to the new curriculum
Students who start their studies in autumn 2024 complete their studies according to the 2024–2030 curricula.
If you have started your studies before 1 August 2024, you can choose to switch over to pursuing a degree according to the new curriculum before 1 February 2026 by informing about it in connection with updating your personal study plan (PSP) during the 2024–2025 academic year at the latest. The information will be stored in your agreements in the Peppi system.
Continuing with the old curriculum
As a current Uniarts Helsinki student, you have the possibility to complete your unfinished degree in accordance with the old degree requirements until 31 January 2026. However, study units that follow the old degree requirements will no longer be offered, and they are replaced with study units that follow the new curricula in accordance with programme-specific correspondence tables for studies.
You will not have to complete the same study unit again, even if it entitles to more or fewer credits that the new corresponding study unit. If due to this, you end up missing credits from the minimum scope of your degree, you must earn the remaining credits by completing optional studies or individual studies or through credit transfers, for example. If the ECTS credit shortage is due to changes in the study unit’s scope, the missing credits do not need to be substituted.
The intention is not to have the overall scope of the degree be exceeded due to changes in the scopes of study units. If a study unit in the previous curriculum had a bigger scope than a corresponding study unit in the new curriculum, the number of credits exceeding the scope of the new study unit will decrease the number of credits for optional studies.
Agreements on the completion of remaining credits needed for a degree are made in connection with the updating of the student’s personal study plan.
Main changes

- Joint selection of language and communication studies and studies in career skills
- New tools in use for determining suitable workloads for courses in proportion to the number of credits awarded
- The degree structure includes more joint studies than before
- There will be specific weeks dedicated to joint studies, which makes it easier to choose and schedule joint studies
