Don’t be left alone: Read the university’s guidelines on dealing with conflicts
It is human for occasional differences to occur between people within a workplace and learning community.
Everyone has the responsibility to maintain a positive work and learning environment and also the right to be treated appropriately. Uniarts Helsinki has a zero-tolerance policy against inappropriate behaviour. Inappropriate treatment may refer to any kind of negative behaviour (while working/studying at the university) that cannot be considered appropriate in terms of the general code of conduct.
If you face inappropriate treatment from another member of our university community, you can find the guidelines aimed at students on the Students’ Uniarts website. The page also lists the contact persons who students are encouraged to contact without hesitation if they face harassment. You can also talk about your situation and seek advice from study psychologists, the university chaplain and the university’s harassment contact person Mia Seppälä (mia.seppala@uniarts.fi).
Give feedback on anything at all on the Students’ Uniarts website
There is an online form that you can use not only for reporting inappropriate treatment but also for giving anonymous feedback about IT systems, buildings and facilities, accessibility, and anything else involving the university’s activities. You can read about feedback opportunities and find the feedback form on the Students’ Uniarts website on the Feedback page.
A campaign on the importance of responsible behaviour coming up in the autumn
In the autumn, the university and the Student Union will organise a joint communications campaign with the aim of increasing people’s awareness of what to do if they face inappropriate behaviour within the university community. The aim of the campaign is also to highlight each person’s responsibility in interaction situations and in bringing up difficult topics. The basic message is: don’t be left alone. The campaign will be promoted on the university’s internal platforms and on Instagram during the autumn term.
In addition to the communications campaign, the university will update the orientation and induction materials aimed at new students and employees concerning appropriate treatment. The materials will be available for use right at the start of the autumn term. The HR team will have meetings within the university’s departments, degree programmes and subject areas as well with service teams to talk about the importance of appropriate treatment and the guidelines for dealing with conflicts. There are also plans for organising various training seminars on giving feedback and on responsible interaction. The training seminars will be offered in 2024.
