Helmi Vesa Piano Competition on 5-8 March 2026

Uniarts Helsinki’s Sibelius Academy will organise the Helmi Vesa Piano Competition for its students in the R Concert Hall on 5-8 March 2026.

Who can apply

The competition is open to those students who study piano as their major subject at the Sibelius Academy’s Faculty of Classical Music and who have not yet completed a master’s degree as well as to students studying at the Junior Academy. Competition applicants must be registered as attending students. Also exchange students studying at the Sibelius Academy during spring season 2026 are allowed to participate in the competition.

Students who have previously been awarded prizes in the competition on three separate occasions during their bachelor’s or master’s studies are no longer eligible to compete in the competition.

Competition repertoire

The competitors perform a 25-30 minutes long free programme which must include the following:

  1. At least two sonatas composed by Domenico Scarlatti
  2. At least 5 minutes long repertoire of music composed by Franz Liszt (including arrangements)

The repertoire must be played from memory.

Registration

Registration takes place with an online form. Registration is open from 8 to 31 January 2023.
