Improvements in student facilities are completed

The 2023 student facility survey highlighted the need for facilities and furniture that support rest and recovery. Based on the feedback from the survey, the Campus Development Groups in Töölö and Sörnäinen decided to direct their development funds towards improving student facilities.

Students on the Helsinki campuses were involved in the development of the facilities. New furniture was purchased and some of the walls were renovated. The development work has now been completed.

Thank you to the active students

The changes to the facilities were planned and implemented together with the students and the facility services.

The Campus Development Groups would like to thank the students for their active feedback and participation in the development work during their busy studies.

As the development of the facilities has also required a lot of work from students, we hope that the renovated facilities and furniture will be well looked after. They are aimed to enhance the well-being of students.

Developing facilities on Sörnäinen Campus

The Student Union space on the 5th floor of Mylly was in a poor condition. In March, the students organized to clear the space of old furniture and other items, and paint the walls. The space was furnished to make it comfortable, according to the students’ wishes. The difference between the old and the renovated space is striking.

In connection with the changes, a new space opened up for the Student Union in the basement of Kookos. The band place, which had previously served as a partial furniture warehouse, was cleared of stored furniture. Furniture and equipment suitable for lounging and enjoying coffee were added.

The Kookos Tori retreat booths, which are actively used by students, were also renovated.

Developing facilities on Töölö Campus

As part of the development work, a Quiet Room for students was opened last year in Töölö’s Nervanderinkatu for rest and retreat. The room is located in the old conference room N-134 and the changes were carried out in co-operation with Rev. University Chaplain Lisa Enckell.

Sofas and armchairs have also been added to the Nervanderinkatu corridor and dining areas used by students.

The furnishings in the corridors of Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu were also improved based on student feedback. Sofas and small tables were added. In addition, the student kitchen furnishing was harmonised, and lamps were added to the window dens.

The earlier renovated Agora space at the Music Centre is used by students as a comfortable working and lounge area. The more private student floor lounges, on the other hand, still lacked comfort furniture. High-backed armchairs have now been added to the floor lounges. They also brighten up the otherwise grey colour scheme of the Music Centre.

We warmly welcome everyone to see the new and improved spaces!
