Read the booking instructions for the M-building 4th floor new calm space “Nurkka”
We recently announced an experimental change to the teaching facilities at M-building. You can read an earlier article on the topic in Student’s uniarts. Due to the changes, M-building’s space S4108 will serve as both a teaching space and a peaceful space for students, called “Nurkka” or “Corner,” during the academic year 2025–2026.
During the experiment, Nurkka will be exclusively available to students from Monday to Friday afternoons from 1 p.m. as well as on weekends. Mon-Fri from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. the space is reserved for teaching. Room S4108 can no longer be reserved in Peppi for teaching purposes or independent artistic work on weekdays after 1 p.m. or on weekends. Instead, you can book other facilities for your needs, which we will describe below.
Nurkka in instructional use
New, more relaxed furniture will be available in Nurkka later in the fall. This includes a sofa group, a lounge chair, a small electric table, and from the current equipment, the piano and AV equipment.
You can hold your lectures in alternative facilities if you feel that the new furniture is not suitable for your instructional needs. On the other hand, both students and teachers have asked that Uniarts Helsinki could have some casually furnished lecture facilities. The new space thus offers an interesting alternative to the current selection of teaching facilities.
As a result of the changes to the premises, more instructional space has been freed up in rooms S3105 and S5119. This means that you can also book these facilities for teaching instead of S4108.
Independent artistic work in Nurkka
You can still book Nurkka on weekdays until 1 p.m. for artistic work. After 1 p.m., you can book other facilities, of which there are now more available times in rooms S3105 and S5119 as a result of the recent changes.
More information about the change
The changes to the premises described above have been made by a decision of the Töölö Campus Development Group. In making the decision, both the needs that emerged in the 2025 student space survey and the development needs presented by teaching have been assessed.
