Student, join to celebrate the conferment week – registration is open from 15 May 2024

Uniarts Helsinki will organise a conferment ceremony for masters and doctors on 16–18 August 2024.  The conferment ceremony is a celebration of art itself as well as education and research in the arts, and we are proud of this field and want it to be seen and heard in society now and in the future. Even in these challenging times – or especially now – we need to be loud about who we are.

Register to join the audience of the conferment weekend’s festivities!

Staff and students of Uniarts Helsinki have the chance to participate in the conferment weekend’s festivities as an audience member. The conferment event may sound formal and stiff, but it does not need to be like that! We have tried to make the event look like us. As is fitting for an arts institution, we will add our own twist to the traditions.

These are the events you can join:

Celebration of the arts

Helsinki Music Centre
Friday, 16 August at 18:00

The event is open to the general public and kicks off the programme for the university’s conferment weekend by presenting the range of artistic skills of the Uniarts Helsinki community. Celebration of the arts is a multiartistic production and a captivating music experience. The price of the ticket also includes admission to the art showcased in the foyer facilities and at the terrace after the performance in the Concert Hall. Read the programme on our website

Tickets can be redeemed as long as there are seats left.

Conferment ceremony

Concert Hall at the Helsinki Music Centre
Saturday, 17 August at 10:00

The conferment ceremony is the most important event of all the conferment festivities. Graduates are conferred their academic degree in the ceremony, which is also called the conferment act. After the official conferment, masters receive laurel wreaths and doctors receive doctoral hats.

Registration ends 9 August 2024.

Conferment dinner

Old Student House
Saturday, 17 August at 19:00

The day of the conferment ceremony will culminate in a festive and dignified dinner, which is a three-course sit-down dinner. The evening will end with a conferment ball.

The price of the dinner for staff and students is €120. The dinner is paid at the time of registration.

Registration for the dinner will open on 3 June 2024. The registration window closes after two weeks, and seating is limited.

Conferment events that do not require registration:

Procession

Departure from the Helsinki Music Centre
Saturday at 14:00

The festive procession travels through the Helsinki city centre and then splits into two groups, one going to the ecumenical jubilee in the Temppeliaukio Church and the other to the secular jubilee at Kulttuurikasarmi. The stately black and white processions are of the most visually striking moments of the conferment festivities, gathering the graduates’ family and friends and curious passers-by near the Helsinki Music Centre to observe the scene. There will also be a range of artistic performances happening on the route of the procession.

Ecumenical jubilee

Temppeliaukio Church
Saturday at 14:30

The ecumenical jubilee (special church service) will be held after the conferment ceremony simultaneously with the secular jubilee. Participants in the event will make their way from the conferment ceremony in a procession. As for the secular jubilee, participation in the event is limited only to conferment graduates and their companions due to limited space.
