Students’ Mental Health Day at Uniarts Helsinki on 19 April
The Students’ Mental Health Day is a national campaign that aims at sparking up a discussion on themes that are important and topical for students’ mental health. In 2023, the day is celebrated on Wednesday, 19 April, and the campaign is ongoing for the whole week 16.
This year’s campaign theme is moderation. In our daily lives, we are constantly expected to achieve results and accomplish things, and students, especially, feel the pressure to meet certain requirements and reach certain goals. This pressure comes from studies and related factors but also from other areas in life. In the worst-case scenario, personal finances, social media, social relationships, leisure activities and other things can make us feel overwhelmed and deplete our energy resources.
The unreasonableness that we face in life is often due to various structural and societal issues. The loan-focused financial aid system, quotas for first-time applicants, certificate-based admissions, strict requirements concerning academic progress and the underlying result-oriented culture are examples of structural factors that make students’ daily life harder and coping resources smaller. With this moderation theme, students are encouraged to take a moment to think about things in their lives that lack moderation and how they could personally surround themselves with more reasonable expectations.
Events at Uniarts Helsinki on the Students’ Mental Health on 19 April
On 19 April, students get to reflect on what moderation means at the Theatre Academy Tori at 10:00–12:00 and in Agora at 13:00–15:00. Study Psychologists Outi and Sanna and University Chaplain Lisa Enckell will be present to guide students in their reflections.
