Welcome to SibA Research Days, 24–25 March 2025!
The theme of the Sibelius Academy’s 2025 Research Days is the ethics of research and artistic practice. The keynote speakers for the event are Heidi Partti and Esa Kirkkopelto.
SibA Research Days will be held on 24–25 March 2025 in the Black Box Hall at the Music Centre.
The languages of the Research Days are Finnish, Swedish, and English.
This year’s Research Days theme is the ethics of research and the practice of art, understood as broadly as possible – a theme that inevitably relates both directly to our work as artists and researchers and also to the broader context of research conventions, institutions, and practices surrounding us. In research, ethics cannot be avoided. The choice of theoretical perspectives and research methods is always influenced by ethical guidelines and requirements. Research is always based on previous work, and therefore recognising the work of our colleagues is ultimately an ethical obligation. Similarly, artistic practice always has ethical dimensions, such as the obligations and responsibilities an artist is considered to have in relation to their audience, composer, historical context – or to their own self as an artist.
