The new printers will be installed in the properties on the Helsinki campus 15–23 June 2024

Uniarts Helsinki’s printing system will be renewed in June 2024 in cooperation with Unigrafia. With the new system, printing times are shortened, material management is easier and the user interface is easier to use.

Installation schedule

The new equipment will be installed in the properties between 15–23 June 2024. This may cause interruptions in the printing service in properties, but the aim is to minimise outages and other inconvenience to users.

In connection with the commissioning of the new system, the shutdown of the current Canon system will begin, which will be phased out by July 2024 at the latest.

The total number of printers at the university will be compacted

The new supplier of Unigrafia’s printing service is Ricoh. In the new service, Uniarts Helsinki’s printing device base and background system will be completely renewed, including all multifunction devices and network printers. The new printers are more environmentally friendly compared to existing printers and save energy.

With the new system, Uniarts Helsinki’s total number of devices will be condensed from the current level. The number of new devices is based on long-term utilization rates, and the locations of future devices have been defined together so that they serve users as comprehensively as possible.

New system, familiar operating logic

With the new service, new print queues will be installed for students and employees for the new service. In addition, new identifiers and instructions for registering the identifier will be distributed in connection with the installations. Existing identifiers (e.g. HSL cards) will also still be available by registering them in the new system.

In principle, the new system works in the same way as the previous Canon system, i.e. the user registers the received identifier with the MFP, sends the print job to the cloud print queue, identifies himself with the MFP and releases the job from his own queue.

The MFPs still have copy and scan capability, and scanning can also be directed directly to your own email.

A new feature of the system is the MyPrint service, which enables the use of the printing system from one’s own devices on Uniarts Helsinki campuses. More detailed instructions will be provided to users from Myprint after the installation is completed.

Student printing quotas will be removed

In the future, student printing will be allowed on all devices, and there will be no separate printing quota. However, printing is only allowed in matters related to studies. We monitor users’ print volumes regularly and any misuse is addressed immediately.

Please note that purchased balances will not transfer from the current system to the new system. If you’ve purchased a new balance, be sure to use it off before renewing.
