Uniarts Helsinki introduces a campus-wide self-service policy for reorganising furniture in its teaching facilities

Guidelines for extra arrangements needed in campus facilities

Starting from August, Uniarts Helsinki will introduce a consistent, campus-wide policy of self-service in its use of teaching facilities. This means that when a person needs additional furniture or equipment in a specific room, they need to get them in the room themselves.

As a rule, when booking teaching facilities, you need to check what features the room has by default, what kind of purpose the room is suited for, and whether it has the furniture and technological equipment that you need. If there is something that needs to be changed in the room’s furniture arrangements, the teacher or the organiser of the event must take care of it themselves, or with the help of their students and course participants, and then put things the way they were after the room is no longer used. For example, chair trolleys, extra tables, mobile flip charts, yoga mats and AV carts are available in the lobbies and hallways of each floor.

Performances and events

Practices concerning performances and events stay the same. Any required services, such as furniture arrangements, are agreed on with the production team in advance and ordered separately – via the Taito channel as regards the Töölö campus, for example.

About the change

This change requires a lot of patience from all of us, and we need to make sure that teachers and students are informed of this new self-service policy that will apply to all furniture and other similar arrangements for teaching that takes place in classrooms and halls at Uniarts Helsinki. This policy has been in place on the Töölö campus for years already.

I understand that facilities have already been booked well in advance with the assumption that there will be a designated person who makes the necessary arrangements with furniture, yoga mats etc. for teaching. Unfortunately, this resource is no longer available.
