Introduction to Master of Fine Arts studies 2025
Students complete orientation studies right at the beginning of studies. Studies begin on 7 January 2025.
Master’s students in the Academy of Fine Arts start their studies during the spring term with the study unit K-M24110 Introduction to Master of Fine Arts studies (2 cr). The study unit is mandatory for all new master’s students in the Academy of Fine Arts.
Content of the study unit
The student becomes acquainted with the studies included in the master’s degree programme, study practices, study guides, facilities and faculty, social benefits and other current information pertaining to the studies. The study unit also serves as an introduction to the joint activities and courses within the University of the Arts Helsinki. In addition, the orientation period includes an introduction to occupational safety, first aid, and initial extinguishing.
During this study unit student will create their Personal study plan (PSP).
Learning outcomes of the study unit
The student gains information about the study practices in the Academy of Fine Arts, which will support their personal study skills. The student is familiar with the electronic systems that are in use at the University of the Arts Helsinki and knows how to search for information. The student has a basic knowledge of occupational safety, first aid, and initial extinguishing.

You can complete the study unit by attending on-campus days, organised between 7 and 13 January 2025 in the premises of the Academy of Fine Arts in the Mylly-building (Sörnäisten rantatie 19). The timetable and classrooms are found below.
