Pedagogical foundations of the University of the Arts Helsinki

This material aims to open up the pedagogical framework and ideology of the curriculum and to support teaching staff, especially in planning the implementation of teaching.

The new curriculum of the University of the Arts Helsinki will start on 1 August 2024. For the first time, the curriculum process has been shared by all units of the University, which has created a need for common guidelines and wording.

As the curriculum does not regulate but frames the implementation of teaching, this material on the pedagogical foundations of teaching at the University of the Arts Helsinki aims to open up the pedagogical framework and ideology of the curriculum and to support teaching staff, especially in planning the implementation of teaching (annual planning).

The multi-faceted resource is currently hosted on the University of the Arts Helsinki’s Artsi intranet and is a collection of guiding texts, files and practical tools accessible to both university staff and students. It is accumulated and updated collaboratively, using shared expertise.

This enables us to take into account the specificities of the arts and interdisciplinarity, as well as to respond agilely to the changing needs of time, environment, working life and continuous learning.
