Separate continued right to study

A separate continued right to study gives you the right to complete studies free of charge for four academic terms following your graduation from Uniarts Helsinki.

What is the continued right to study?

The continued right to study allows our alumni to complete studies free of charge through courses organised by their own academy, through joint studies or at the Open University (studies arranged by Open University partner institutions are subject to a course fee).

You can be granted a continued right to study if you have completed one of the following degrees at Uniarts Helsinki: a doctoral degree, a master’s degree or a bachelor’s degree that does not grant the right to complete a master’s degree.

The continued right to study is a separate right to study, which can be granted for four academic terms after graduation. It does not entitle students to complete a degree, but rather enables them to complete individual courses.

Validity of the right to study

The continued right to study is valid for the academic term during which the student has graduated and for four academic terms thereafter. The duration of the right to study cannot be extended, for example, on the basis of illness or parental leave.

How to activate your right

Using the degree certificate request form, notify your academy that you wish to activate your continued right to study. A student with a continued right to study does not need to register at the university each year, because their registration is recorded at once for their entire study period.

The continued right to study will allow you to complete any courses that you are taking and have not completed at the time of your graduation. Continuing students do not need to pay tuition fees, which means they are also not entitled to receive grants or waivers related to tuition fees.

The continued right to study cannot be postponed or suspended after it has been granted. If you renounce your continued right to study in writing, you will not be able to apply for it again.

Applying to courses

A Uniarts Helsinki graduate can apply for courses organised by the Open University and by their own academy or for Uniarts Helsinki’s joint studies.

Each academy and Open Campus processes applications on a case-by-case basis.

Open University courses

You can apply for Open University courses during the Open University’s registration period in Peppi. There are three application periods per year.

The selection criteria of each course determine which students will be selected as participants. The selection criteria (previous studies, cover letter, proficiency test, order of registration) are listed in the course descriptions.
