IT device lending machines on campuses

From the loan machines located on campuses, you can borrow IT equipment, such as a laptop. The borrowing period is 1-2 weeks.

Borrow laptops or meeting equipment

Uniarts Helsinki’s campuses offer the LaLa IT device lending machines service from which you can borrow, for example, laptops or remote meeting equipment, such as cameras and external microphone and speaker devices. The devices can also be used to create a hybrid teaching space or for remote teaching outside our facilities.

The lending machines and loan devices contained in them are available for all members of the Uniarts Helsinki community!

The loan period of the devices is 1–2 weeks.

Locations

The lending machines, which are similar to Posti Parcel Lockers, can be found on both campuses:

  • Theatre Academy: Tori, in front of the library
  • Sibelius Academy: Third floor, in front of the info-desk

How to use the lending machines

To use a lending machine, you only need your Uniarts Helsinki email address (in the format abc1234@uniarts.fi) and an identification card for logging in. A HSL card and a Unigrafia card, for example, are suitable identification cards. Many other chip cards also work for identification.

Follow these steps:

  • Press the Login button.
  • Show LaLa’s card reader the identification card you want to use for logging in.
  • Enter your email address in the format abc12345@uniarts.fi.
  • You will receive an activation code in your email. Enter the code in LaLa.  In the future, you do not need to complete this step, as you can use LaLa with your identification card.
  • Press the Loaning button to view the loan devices offered by LaLa.
  • When you are finished, remember to press the Logout button to log out of LaLa.

Using the devices in the lending machines

Windows computer

You use a Windows computer in the same manner as you would use a shared computer of the university. The range of applications matches the IT room computers.

The computers come with an AC adapter and a protective bag. Return the computer charged and the keyboard cleaned.

Tips:

  • Use the AC adapter for video connections longer than an hour. If you are using an internet browser for remote connection, select Chrome. Close applications that are not necessary for the connection.
  • Log in to the computer with a Guest/Vieras ID or your Uniarts Helsinki user ID (abc12345). Using your university user ID requires an internet connection!
  • Logging in with your Uniarts Helsinki user ID is the only way to access services that only work in the university’s network (for example, network drives, single sign-on to internet services)
  • Each time you log out, your user profile is cleared – store your important files on, for example, a network drive or in the university’s OneDrive service.

Jabra speakerphone

Improve the sound quality of remote meetings with the easy-to-use Jabra Speak 710 speakerphone!

The device comes with a USB adapter and a protective bag. Return the device charged and cleaned.

When using wirelessly, connect the USB adapter that comes with the device to your computer.   Two Jabra speakerphones of the same model can be paired through Bluetooth. Press and hold the double circle button on the speakerphone.
  • Two speakerphones are helpful when you are working with a large group. You do not need to connect another USB adapter to the computer.
  • When you use Jabra wirelessly, it uses the internal battery. To charge it, plug the speakerphone into a USB connector on your computer or a phone charger. Full battery life is approx. 15 hours.
  • Jabra has a good sound quality. The microphone picks up sound evenly from all directions (360°) even in large spaces. The best place for the device is at the centre of the listeners. It can be placed on a desk, either into a leaning position or horizontally.

Zoom Q2N Audio & Video Recorder

Improve the video and audio quality of remote meetings with the easy-to-use Zoom Q2N Audio & Video Recorder!

The device comes with a USB cable and a carrying bag. Return the device cleaned.

Tips:

  • Zoom Q2N works as an external camera and microphone instead of the computer’s hardware. Connect the device to your computer with a USB cable. During remote meetings, the camera is set to the Webcam mode. Confirm the Webcam mode selection on the camera screen. Attach the device to the tripod or place it freely on, for example, a table.
  • The video camera has a wide angle (160°). Recording a larger group is possible from a relatively short distance. The device can also be used as a conventional video camera, in which case the device records into an SD card.
  • The high-quality stereo microphone picks up sound well even in large spaces. It is capable of handling sound levels up to 120 dB SPL.

Portable mobile broadband Uniarts Hotspot

  • After use, be sure to press and hold the power button to turn off the device.
