KELA informs: The due date for the student healthcare fee, 15 November, approaches – remember to pay in time
If you are a higher education student and you are registered as attending, you must pay the healthcare fee for students in higher education by 15 November. We recommend paying it in the OmaKela e-service (available in Finnish and Swedish) as soon as possible because Kela will charge an additional late fee of five euros if you pay after the deadline.
The student healthcare fees are used to fund health services for higher education students. The Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS) provides those services in Finland. Higher education students can use FSHS’s services without paying any separate per-visit charges. Students must pay the student healthcare fee even if they do not use FSHS’s services or if they use occupational health services.
You do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage in another EU or EEA country, Switzerland, Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the EU.
Kela has sent all students who must pay the student healthcare fee a letter on 15 October to remind them that they must pay the fee. The letter also comes with instructions on how to pay it. The majority of students have received this letter digitally in OmaKela.
