Updates from Uniarts Helsinki within the IN.TUNE Alliance
IN.TUNE – Innovative Universities in Music & Arts in Europe is a European alliance of eight prestigious universities specialising in music and the arts. Through IN.TUNE, the University of the Arts Helsinki can offer international events, study modules and funding opportunities for both staff and students. We compile current opportunities offered to students and staff within the University of the Arts Helsinki’s IN.TUNE alliance in our internal news feed approximately once a month.
- “As we build a shared European learning environment, the student experience is the most important measure. It must guide our work at every level,” says our Dean, Kaisa Rönkkö, sending greetings from the IN.TUNE Summit held in Vienna in May. The alliance aims to strengthen the position of the arts and music in society, which also means defending shared values. In Vienna, the alliance’s board expressed its strong support for the University of Arts in Belgrade at a time when academic freedom is under pressure. Read more about the greetings and the board’s statement on the situation in Serbia on the website.
- In June, our alliance group gathered at Kallio-Kuninkala. We reflected on the University of the Arts’ expectations regarding the alliance collaboration and envisioned where we might be in ten years’ time. One important step for the future is to engage a broader range of institutions from all artistic disciplines in the alliance’s activities.
- This June, our jazz students Oona Mattsson, Severi Tikkanen, Risto Kauppinen, Olavi Stanek, Emil Dobosiewicz, Bianca Rantala and Aarni Häkkinen took part in a Blended Intensive Programme in Barcelona, focusing on jazz performance, collaboration and creative interaction. Participants explored different approaches to jazz through ensemble playing, improvisation and shared artistic practices.
- We have a new IN.TUNE student representative! Following Filip’s graduation, Carmo Almeida Quintela Torre de Valle has been appointed to the role. A warm welcome! As a student representative, Carmo will participate in both the Student Council and the Social Engagement work package.
- The University of the Arts is responsible for the research work package of the IN.TUNE alliance, led by Professor Juha Ojala. He is now joined in this work by Vice Dean for Research and Doctoral Education, Tuuli Talvitie.
