Booking of facilities at the Academy of Fine Arts

As a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, you can book project rooms, studios and workshop facilities for your use as well as facilities for your independent work.

If you are completing a degree within the normative timeframe for degrees at the Academy of Fine Arts, you have the right to book facilities for study-related purposes when they are available.  

Students of the Academy of Fine Arts and lighting design, sound design and design for the performing arts students of the Theatre Academy can book Mylly facilities on the Sörnäinen campus for study-related purposes in accordance with the room-specific booking policies. 

Keys

The facilities team is in charge the management of keys and providing related guidance.  

You can access Mylly 24/7 if you have a key.  

Use of facilities

You can use the facilities only for studying, research and related artistic activities. Using the facilities for other purposes without an agreement signed with the university is forbidden.    

You must leave the room that you booked in the same condition that it was before your use. You must organise and tidy up the space within the reserved time.   

Booking of facilities

You must check the more detailed room-specific guidelines concerning students’ right to use and book facilities from Peppi when you book the room. The policies are different for each type of room. The differences in students’ booking roles are provided in the room description in Peppi.   

Check the room status and make the reservation in Tuudo or Peppi or by following the instructions given in the description of the room. You can find video tutorials for making reservations in the Peppi front page for reservations.  

  • An example on restrictions concerning booking rights: Students can book a classroom max. five days in advance: the booking window opens in Peppi every day at 12:00 (noon). For example, on Monday at 12:00 (noon), you can book facilities for Friday, but not for later days.   

Each person booking a room must cancel reservations that they cannot use via the booking system at least 15 minutes before the start of the reservation. Deleting a reservation after this is forbidden. You cannot reschedule your reservation or give it to some other student.  

If you do not follow the restrictions, you risk losing your booking rights.  

Mylly mobile booths on the 2nd and 3rd floor lobbies

Two large mobile booths are available for all to book at Mylly’s lobby spaces. The recommendation is to reserve these spaces for a maximum of two hours at a time per person.
The new booths are relatively well soundproofed and the glass surfaces are taped with privacy film. This is intended to support the possibility of confidential discussions in the booths.

The mobile booth on the 2nd floor K-207a 

The space has a high conference table and active chairs for four people and is well suited for meetings of 2-4 people. There is a small screen on the wall, which can be connected to your own laptop. Please note that the space is not accessible.

The mobile booth on the 3rd floor K-307a

The space is furnished for three people and is well suited, for example, for small mentoring meetings. The space has an adjustable desk and a desk display. There is no threshold, which makes it accessible, but please note that this may require rearranging the furniture.

Booking of project facilities

Project facilities in Mylly

The following facilities are meant for the independent work of students at the Academy of Fine Arts as well as for lighting design, sound design and design for the performing arts students. The facilities are suitable for artistic projects that involve work that you can clean or tidy up afterwards. 
Students can book the student´s project room max. five days in advance. The maximum duration of a reservation is 5 days. The same booking practices also apply to teaching that is organised in the room in exceptional circumstances. If there is need for additional technology or equipment, protective material etc. – contact the technicians of your subject area. Also contact them if you need to drill the walls or the ceiling or otherwise attach heavy objects.   

  • K-350 Student´s project room 350. Students can book the room max. five days in advance. The maximum duration of a reservation is 5 days.  
  • Ko-352 Student´s project room 352 cannot be booked until 31.7.2024. Currently in studio use.
  • K-354 Student´s project room 354 cannot be booked until 31.7.2024. Currently in studio use.
  • K-355 Student´s project room 355 cannot be booked until 31.7.2024. Currently in studio use.
  • K-356 Student´s project room 356 cannot be booked until 31.7.2024. Currently in studio use.

Project room in Majakka K-602

There is the student´s project room K-602 in Majakka. Academy of Fine Arts students and lighting design, sound design and design for the performing arts students have the right to book the room, and the latest possible time for a reservation is the end of the following academic term. The duration of the reservation can be max. 5 days (starting from 1 January 2023). Making consecutive reservations is not allowed. The room can be booked for Academy of Fine Arts teaching and teaching in lighting design, sound design and design for the performing arts, and the latest possible time for the reservation is the end of the following academic term. The maximum duration of the reservation is 10 days. 

The room features a large screen display with speakers for presenting AV material. Contact the attendants if you need an introduction session in the room or extra chairs and tables. If you are planning to organise an event in Majakka, notify of this (name of the organiser/description and schedule of the event) 2 weeks in advance by email to kuva.toimitilapalvelut@uniarts.fi. Make sure that you receive a confirmation for your event.

Forbidden things in Majakka

  • Hot work, including use of soldering iron 
  • Use of spray paint or other aerosols 
  • Hanging of items onto electricity or lighting rail systems or lighting fixtures 
  • The outdoor balcony in the Majakka facilities is not open. 

Studio and workshop facilities (reservations in Peppi)

The following rooms can be booked in Peppi. Using the facilities requires an introduction session. 

  • K-339 Sound design studio. Students of lighting design, sound design and time and space arts have the right to book the room in the Peppi system up to five days in advance and for up to 20 hours in total per week. Using the room requires an introduction session. Person-in-charge: AV technicians for lighting and sound design   
  • K-340 Sound design studio.   • K-342 Editing. Students of time and space arts, lighting design, sound design and design for the performing arts have the right to book the room in the Peppi system up to five days in advance and for up to 20 hours in total per week.   • K-343 Editing. Students of time and space arts, lighting design, sound design and design for the performing arts have the right to book the room in the Peppi system up to five days in advance and for up to 20 hours in total per week.   • K-248 Room.  The room can be reserved only by Academy of Fine Arts students in the field of doctoral education. The duration of the reservation max. 14 days. Person-in-charge: attendants of the Facilities Services.
