Application deadline extended for the Socially Engaged Musicking programme
Socially Engaged Musicking is a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), offered by the European IN.TUNE university alliance, exploring the intersection of music and society, culminating in an on-site week in Vienna.
The programme focuses on music-making as a relational, participatory practice and on developing presentation formats beyond traditional concert settings. Participants will develop their own socially engaged music project with international peers and mentors.
Who can apply?
- Bachelor students in their final year, Master or Doctoral students from all IN.TUNE partner universities: instrumentalists (including non-Western instruments and electronics) and singers.
- Earn 4 ECTS credits
Programme dates
- Oct 12–30, 2026: online preparation
- Nov 2–7, 2026: on-site week in Vienna (mdw)
- Nov 2026–Jan 2027: reflection and project development
Course Funding
Students are responsible for the practical arrangements and costs of the physical mobility period (e.g. travel, accommodation, and living expenses).
Students selected for the BIP programme will be awarded an Erasmus+ grant by the University of the Arts Helsinki, intended to support the costs of the mobility period in Vienna.
Erasmus+ grant
- €79 per programme day during the Vienna period
- Additional travel support in accordance with Erasmus+ distance-based criteria
- €100 top-up available for participants with fewer opportunities
- The Erasmus+ grant must be applied for before the start of the course. Please begin planning well in advance in cooperation with Leena Veijonsuo, International Affairs Specialist at the Sibelius Academy.

Apply by sending
- a motivation video in English (max. 2 min): Tell us why you would like to participate. Be creative and think out of the box!
- an artistic video (max. 3 min): Show us your artistic skills! We are welcoming singers and musicians with a broad variety of instruments from classical, popular, or global musics. A professional recording is not required.
Please submit both videos as links (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo or similar platforms) to pilz-s@mdw.ac.at and indicate your home-institution. No file upload is required.
