Studies in working life skills

Whether you are studying for a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree, you are welcome to pursue studies in working life skills.

During the summer term, the selection of studies in working life skills includes a new course on ABCs of marketing communication as an artist, which gives an introduction to the basics of marketing and communication in the arts and cultural sector. Students can also complete online courses focusing on copyrights, negotiation skills and verbalisation of an artist’s creative skills and competence. This summer’s new addition to the selection of studies taught in English is an online course on negotiation skills.

Study module in musical theatre in the 2024-2025 academic year

The study module in musical theatre will continue during the 2024-2025 academic year. This master-level module is organised as Uniarts Helsinki’s joint studies, and the application period takes place in connection with the Open University’s summer application round between 3 and 19 April 2024. Some of the applicants will be invited to an audition scheduled for 27 April 2024.

The study module comprises 10-30 credits, and it consists of studies, masterclasses and workshops in dance, musical singing, voice control, ensemble singing and acting.

The course content and application instructions for the study module will be published on 19 March 2024 in the Study Guide. Master’s degree students of Uniarts Helsinki and Open University applicants alike can be admitted to the module.

Language and communication studies

Besides the selection of optional language courses at Uniarts Helsinki, you can also take advantage of the courses offered by various language networks: Uniarts Helsinki students are welcome to apply for courses offered by the KiViTa and KiVANET networks. There are several application periods per year, and studies are mostly organised remotely.

KiViTa language and communication studies are organised by universities in the Helsinki area. The application period for KiViTa courses taking place later this spring will extend from 1 March to 2 April 2024, and more detailed information is available at kivita.fi. Courses available later this spring give the opportunity to learn the basics of Swedish and get a glimpse into the French language and culture, and Uniarts Helsinki offers a course on learning Finnish by singing!

KiVANET offers online language courses organised by various Finnish higher education institutions. The language selection of KiVANET studies ranges from Estonian to sign language! You can register for KiVANET courses that are available later this spring or during the summer between 2 and 17 April 2024 at kivanet.fi/kurssitarjonta (in Finnish)

Courses in Seinäjoki

Writer Merja Mäki will teach a writing course in April-May in Seinäjoki. Register for this course, called Information and feelings in writing, by 1 April 2024 at the latest. A course called TUNNEKKO focusing on inter-artistic pedagogy will begin in August, and it is intended for teachers, instructors, teacher students and everyone who wants to apply art pedagogy in their work. Degree students are welcome to join both of these Open University courses. 

Traditional Sibelius Academy summer courses will be available again this year. Sibis Jazz Camp will be organised in June, the Piano Summer Academy led by Teppo Koivisto will take place in July-August, and a conducting course by Atso Almila will be organised at the beginning of the autumn term.

Mobility studies in summer 2024

Mobility studies refer to studies that are organised by the academies and that are available to all Uniarts Helsinki students. You can include mobility studies in your degree as optional studies, for example. You can contact your home academy’s staff to make sure that a specific study unit is suited for your degree.

Open University

Some of the Open University courses have set quotas for degree students who can participate in the courses free of charge. The Open University’s selection of studies during the summer will be published on 19 March 2024.

More detailed information on the course selection and requirements for quota spots are presented in the Study Guide.

As for other Open University courses at Uniarts Helsinki, degree students who have registered for attendance are eligible for a 50% discount on the course fee. The discount does not apply to teaching provided by partner institutions (summer universities, folk high schools). Browse the course selection.
