Important instructions for new students who are starting their Bachelor's or Master's degree.
Before you start your studies
Take care of these things well in advance and you will be ready to start your studies smoothly.

Confirm the study place and register for the first study year
Confirm the study place and register as attending by 11th July 2024. The deadline for the Fine Arts master students is 19 November 2024.

Information about student housing options
Uniarts Helsinki doesn’t offer student accommodation so you will have to make your own living arrangements.

Arriving in Finland as an international degree student
If you are coming from outside the EU you must apply for a residence permit. EU-citizens must register their residency by 3 months of arrival. All international students must also register their personal information at the Digital and Population Data Services Agency after arriving in Finland.

Do these things when the academic year starts
Not everything can be done in advance. Here is a checklist of things you need to do after the academic term starts either in August or January.

Activate your Uniarts user ID as soon as the academic term has started (1 August or 1 January)
You can activate your user ID with your Finnish online banking identification. If you don’t have Finnish online banking credentials, you will be contacted by your academy and you will receive your user ID. You will need your user ID from the beginning of August to complete the online course included in the orientation of new students.

Check and verify your data in the Peppi system
Log in to Peppi using the your university user ID. You can edit most of your information yourself. If you have questions or need help, send email to peppi@uniarts.fi

Student card and student discounts
You get student discounts and benefits with a student card. You can use Tuudo’s digital ID and Frank student card as your student card.

Pay the healthcare fee to Kela
Degree students pay the healthcare fee to Kela for each semester. The due dates are 15 November and 15 March. Read more about the fee on “Checklist for new international degree students” and on Kela’s website.

In Peppi, you plan and register for studies and book facilities.

Tuudo mobile app
Tuudo is a mobile appication which you can upload from App store/ Google Play.

The most important daily communication tool that the students are expected to follow.

In Moodle, you can find your course materials, submit assignments, and discuss course topics.

Curricula, course descriptions and information on courses offered each academic year.

Microsoft 365 service
This is how you can install Microsoft programmes, such as Word and Excel, on your computer.

IT device lending machines on campuses
From the loan machines located on campuses, you can borrow IT equipment, such as a laptop. The borrowing period is 1-2 weeks.

Printing on campus
Students can use multi-function printers to copy, scan and print documents on campus.

Student wellbeing
Find support for wellbeing and contact information for university chaplain and study psychologist.

IT helpdesk
Contact the helpdesk if you have problems or need guidance on how to use devices and software related to your studies.

Student union
Student Union (ArtSU) is the community and interest and service organisation for students at Uniarts Helsinki. All bachelor’s and master’s degree students are automatically its members.
