The student restaurant in N Building focuses on vegetarian and vegan food

Since the beginning of the year, Restaurant Tempo in N Bulding has offered only vegetarian and vegan food centrally. The proposal for this has come from the Student Union, and the change has been aimed at responding to students’ wishes for this type of offering. Kela also welcomed the proposal, as there are several restaurants offering student-priced mixed food nearby. Below are the restaurant’s greetings to all customers. Remember to give feedback and development suggestions to the restaurant to help with further development.

“Tempo Goes Green is a new vegetarian restaurant that responds to the changed eating habits and values of students and young people. We want to offer our customers delicious, healthy and climate-friendly food that is suitable for everyone. Come and experience the joy of eating and the richness of flavours at Tempo Goes Green!”

Changing eating habits and responsibility

At Compass Group, we want to respond to students’ changing eating needs. That is why we conducted an international study (Global Eating at Work 2023) with respondents, students and employed people from Finland and different countries. In the survey, we asked them what they value and hope for from food services. The results of our research show that students are increasingly aware of and interested in the effects of food on their own health and the environment. They want to eat more vegetarian and vegan foods that are climate-friendly and responsible.

According to our survey, 54% of students like to eat vegetarian food and 75% of young people want food services to help them make healthier choices. Many students (54%) have also changed their eating habits to reduce their own climate impact. Almost half of the students are happy to eat vegan food or are ready to try it. At Compass Group, we want to offer students varied and tasty plant-based meals where meat is an alternative addition. In this way, we can support students’ well-being and climate goals.
