Call for participation: Socially Engaged Musicking (BIP)sä

Socially Engaged Musicking is a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) exploring the intersection of music and society, culminating in an on-site week in Vienna.

The programme focuses on music-making as a relational, participatory practice and on developing presentation formats beyond traditional concert settings. Participants will develop their own socially engaged music project with international peers and mentors.

Who can apply?

  • Final-year BA students and MA students from IN.TUNE partner universities
  • Earn 4 ECTS credits

Programme dates

  • Oct 12–30, 2026: online preparation
  • Nov 2–7, 2026: on-site week in Vienna (mdw)
  • Nov 2026–Jan 2027: reflection and project development

Course Funding

Students are responsible for the practical arrangements and costs of the physical mobility period (e.g. travel, accommodation, and living expenses).

Students selected for the BIP programme will be awarded an Erasmus+ grant by the University of the Arts Helsinki, intended to support the costs of the mobility period in Vienna.

Erasmus+ grant

  • €79 per programme day during the Vienna period
  • Additional travel support in accordance with Erasmus+ distance-based criteria
  • €100 top-up available for participants with fewer opportunities
  • The Erasmus+ grant must be applied for before the start of the course. Please begin planning well in advance in cooperation with Leena Veijonsuo, International Affairs Specialist at the Sibelius Academy.

Application deadline is on May 15, 2026 12:00 PM. Application includes:

  • Motivation video in English (max. 2 min)
  • Artistic video (max. 3 min)
    Submit videos as links (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo).
