Call for student marshals: come and assist in Uniarts Helsinki’s conferment festivities

Uniarts Helsinki will organise a conferment ceremony for masters and doctors on 16–18 August 2024. A conferment ceremony is the biggest and most eminent celebration of the university community and a festive end to university studies. The event entails academic traditions, uplifting speeches and a spectacular dinner and ball. Conferment festivities are a unique experience that will give the participants treasured memories long into the future.

Apply as a marshal for the conferment festivities!

We are now looking for marshals to help in the various conferment festivities. Traditionally, a marshal is a university student who helps in practical details, makes sure that the events go smoothly and provides support for the graduates who are participating in the events. In Uniarts Helsinki’s conferment events, marshals are also tasked with guiding and advising people before the start of the events or afterwards.

Marshals wear a tailcoat or a black evening dress, a Finnish student cap and a marshal’s ribbon on their shoulder.

We pay marshals a remuneration of €150 for participating in the conferment festivities.

We are looking for marshals for two different shifts

Shift 1:

  • Fri 16 August: Conferment ceremony rehearsal
  • Sat 17 August: Conferment ceremony and procession, ecumenical jubilee and event of celebration
  • Sun 18 August: Excursion (a smart weather-appropriate attire)

Shift 2:

  • Thu 15 August: Wreath-weaving event for master’s graduates and doctoral hat try-on
  • Fri 16 August: Gala for the arts
  • Sat 17 August: Dinner and ball

All marshals must also complete a mandatory training session and a stage rehearsal on Friday, 9 August 2024

Please fill in the form carefully by 21 April.

Experiences and photos from the 2018 conferment event

Alum of the Sibelius Academy and Theatre Academy Sofia Suomalainen, who was a marshal at the 2018 conferment event:

“The conferment event was festive yet laidback. During the dinner, I got to sit next to composer Kaija Saariaho, which was a really meaningful moment. I met people who graduated from Uniarts Helsinki in various decades, ranging from recent to more older alumni. It was like a sophisticated class reunion that led to unforgettable interactions and new friendships.”
