R building’s “Pop-up Living Room” opens its doors to students and personnel on 6.2.2023!

R building has been without a café for a while since the previous operator of Feeniks closed down. Personnel and students alike have been longing for a comfortable space to get together and work in a relaxed atmosphere in the building. The Töölö Campus Development Group discussed the issue at its last meeting, and decided to open Feeniks as a common lounge for students and staff for the time being.

The Pop-up Living Room will be open until a more permanent plan for the café is settled. This will allow us to enjoy the space that has brought our community together for the time being.

The Pop-up Living Room will be open to our personnel and students only, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Access to the space is limited through the door on the concert hall lobby’s side, and the street-facing access route should not be used.

What can I do in the Pop-up Living Room?

You can come to the space to meet people, enjoy yourself and do independent work, e.g. on a laptop. However, no outside the house events or gatherings should take place in the space.

In addition to cozy table groups, there are two microwaves, cutlery and water glasses for enjoying your own meals. Please use your own lunch box, as there are no other utensils such as plates. Efforts are being made to add a coffee option, but these will take some time to be arranged.

The space does not offer cold storage, and you will need to take your own items with you when you leave the space. Please refer to the guidelines posted in the space for general cleanliness and comfort. The shared Pop-up Living Room is a new and interesting experiment in terms of community spaces. If challenges are identified with the cleanliness of the space, we may have to give up enjoying our own meals in the space.
