Registration period extended: ICMS 16 – Music as a Meaningful Art Congress in June

The International Congress on Musical Signification (ICMS) will be held at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki from 2 to 6 June 2026.

In an era of technological acceleration and social change, researchers from all over the world gather in Helsinki to consider a fundamental question: how does music create meaning? The event returns to its roots in Finland forty years after the Congress was founded in Finland.

The congress brings together researchers of musical sigification and musical meaning to discuss new developments and future prospects in musical semiotics and related fields of research.

The theme of the 2026 ICMS 16 is Music as a Meaningful Art
