The model study path helps you schedule your studies so that all courses can be completed within the target time of the degree.

BFA study path model

Bachelor of Fine Arts contains 210 cr and its duration is 3.5 years. (Formal education completed in language other than Finnish/Swedish).

1st year studies of the bachelor’s degree

ATTN: For the Individual studies module student must complete at least 20 cr worth of studies offered by the subject areas during their BFA studies. They can be offered by one or more subject area (Sculpture, Painting, Printmaking, Time and Space Arts or Joint studies in fine arts). At least half of the artistic studies must be completed at the Academy of Fine Arts or an international exchange partner approved by the Academy of Fine Arts.

MFA study path model

Master of Fine Arts degree contains 120 cr and its duration is 2 years.

Notes on the study path model:

  • Workload for the MFA thesis project is divided into 3 terms. The credits for the MFA thesis (40 cr) are registered after the thesis has been accepted at the Academic Council.
  • Please check the deadlines for submitting your thesis in Artsi.

*K-M353 Examination events of thesis projects: Study unit requires attending 16 Master’s thesis examinations over several semesters. You can also compensate the examination events by participating in the Kuvan Kevät seminar (whole seminar attendance equals 8 events / 1 cr) and by following doctoral thesis examinations.
