The form will close exactly at 4.15 pm on 23 January so please don’t leave it at the last minute to apply! You can also attach separate files in the form.

Grounds for grant-giving

The University of the Arts Helsinki Foundation’s general grants for The Academy of Fine Arts’ students are given out for study-related purposes. Their purpose is to promote students’ networking and artistic work in Finland and abroad. Comprehensive grounds must be given in the application and it must indicate how the grant’s purpose of use is connected to the applicant’s studies (for example artistic activities or development as an artist). Any appendices to the application, including visual materials, must be clearly set forth and relevant to the application.

The grants are given on discretionary basis, taking into account the overall grant budget that is available, any previous grants that the applicant has received from the Academy of Fine Arts, and any external funding applied for or received for the same purpose. Grants cannot be awarded retrospectively for activities which already have been completed.

Priority is given to students whose studies are progressing in schedule (for the so-called “N-th year students”, the grant should be used to help complete their studies). Grants are mainly given out for purposes related to bachelor’s and master’s studies.

Grants are usually not given for the following purposes:

  • fees, remuneration or daily allowances;
  • general living costs;
  • acquisition of devices or tools;
  • rents of galleries or exhibition facilities;
  • travel expenses to the Academy’s residences;
  • expenses that can be covered by material or thesis project grants;
  • bachelor’s thesis project or Bachelor’s degree exhibition expenses.

The University of the Arts Foundation Board makes decisions on the grants based on the Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts’ motion. The Dean makes the motion on the grants after consulting professors.
